Brian Harrison, Kristina Thorson

The senior goalkeeper posted his sixth and seventh shutouts of the season in two Snohomish victories to keep the Panthers tied for the top spot in the Western Conference North Division.

Harrison made several key saves in a 1-0 victory over Cascade on Tuesday. Perhaps his best save was one of a Cascade shot that caused the ball to deflect off the crossbar of the goal.

In Snohomish’s 3-0 defeat of Marysville-Pilchuck, Harrison again proved impenetrable.

“When it was 1-0, he made three brilliant saves,” Panthers coach Dan Pingrey said. “He is like a cat out there.”

Other top boys soccer performers: Brett Walsh, Monroe; Brayton Knapp, Sultan; Kyle Massey, Shorewood; Brian Thompson, Oak Harbor; Brian Kaleiwahea, Cascade; Aaron Johnson, Sultan; Ryan Bluhm, Meadowdale.

It was just another typical week of dominance for the senior pitcher.

Thorson outdueled Everett ace Julie Vanek on Tuesday in a 1-0 Shorecrest victory. The Cal-bound right-hander allowed only two hits while striking out 10 Everett batters. She also knocked in the game’s only run with an RBI triple in the third inning.

Thorson won another 1-0 game on Thursday when she beat Kamiak. In that game, she allowed four hits, struck out 12 and was 1-for-3 at the plate to push her season record to 12-0.

Those performances came in spite of Thorson having trouble with some of her breaking pitches.

“She always amazes me,” Shorecrest coach Kristie Oglesby said. “She struggled a bit, but there’s no way for anyone but her to know when she is struggling. She just stays focused and doesn’t let it bother her.”
