The chinook fishery at the bottom end of the Columbia River closed Tuesday after a not-very-good season in which just about half as many fish as expected were caught. One might think that left a lot of “quota” available to extend the season, but since most of the fish taken were from a certain lower-river stock, biologists say an extension almost certainly would curtail seasons farther up the river.
