SEATTLE — Major League Baseball announced today that catcher Cal Raleigh has been selected as the American League Player of the Month for June.
In 26 June games, Cal hit .300 (30 for 100) with 22 runs, 6 doubles, 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 3 stolen bases with a .398 OBP, .690 slugging percentage and a 1.088 OPS. He led the American League in home runs, RBI, OPS, slugging percentage and fWAR (1.9).
Raleigh, who yesterday was named the starting catcher for the American League in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, took home AL Player of the Week honors for the week of June 16-22, after he hit .417 with 10 runs scored, 2 doubles, 5 home runs, 12 RBI and 3 walks, going 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts in 6 games during the week. He registered a .481 on-base percentage, slugging 1.125 with a 1.606 OPS.
During his award-winning month, Raleigh set the record for most home runs before the All-Star Break by a catcher, passing Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, who hit 28 home runs in 1970. He also set the record for most home runs by a switch hitter before the All-Star Break, passing Mickey Mantle (29 in 1955 and 1961), Lance Berkman (19 in 2002) and José Ramírez (29 in 2018). He finished June with 33 home runs, the fifth player in MLB history to reach that mark before July 1, joining Ken Griffey Jr. (1998), Sammy Sosa (1998), Mark McGwire (1998) and Barry Bonds (2001).
The award marks the first monthly award in Raleigh’s career and the first Player of the Month award for a Mariners player since Julio Rodríguez for August, 2023. He is the second Mariners player to win a monthly award this season, joining Andrés Muñoz, who was named AL Reliever of the Month for March/April.
