Cascade and Lake Stevens battle to tie

EVERETT – It was the definition of a close game. It was so close, nobody won.

The Wesco North soccer game between Lake Stevens and Cascade ended in a 1-1 tie at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The tie was not for lack of trying on either team’s part.

“It was a good, hard fought battle,” Lake Stevens head coach Scott Flanders said.

The Vikings, who ended their second straight game with a tie after a 1-1 battle with Marysville-Pilchuck on Thursday, got on the board first with a Tyler Jones goal off a Tyler Johnson assist in the 17th minute.

“Got behind the defense,” Flanders said.

Lake Stevens took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but saw it quickly evaporate in the 58th minute when Patryk Rozanski got the Bruins right back in the game.

“It was pretty back and forth,” Flanders said of the possession battle. “We came out pretty good. Then both teams settled in.”

After two five-minute overtime periods, the game ended.

“We both had our chances,” Flanders said.

Lake Stevens had a scare when sophomore midfielder Zach Wagner went down in the 20th minute with a concussion.

Wagner was sent to the hospital, but Flanders said “he should be OK.”

Both teams looked to have something to prove. Lake Stevens (9-1-2 in league and overall) currently holds the No. 2 seed in the Wesco North standings, just ahead of Cascade (9-3-1).
