Cascade overcomes wind, rain, Lake Stevens for Wesco North win

EVERETT -The Cascade girls tennis team overcame strong winds and rain to record a 7-0 victory over Lake Stevens in Wednesday’s Western Conference North meet.

Last season’s Wesco North champion Angela Li bounced back from last week’s season-opening loss with a 6-1, 6-0 victory during Wednesday’s No. 1 singles match for the Bruins (2-0 league, 2-0). Lake Stevens drops to 0-2, 0-2.

“She (Li) is definitely a player to watch out for,” Cascade coach Jennifer Kink said. “She had 14 victories last season. She has a strong serve and she records a lot of aces.”

Cascade’s No. 2 doubles team of Brynn Simek and Kailee Mallos helped round out the seven-match shutout.

“They were very strong today,” Kink said. “They played the net very well today.”
