Cascade survives seventh-inning rally by Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS – First-place Cascade survived a seventh-inning scare and took advantage of nine walks and one batter being hit by a pitch to overcome being outhit by Lake Stevens and win Tuesday’s Wesco North game 7-5.

Lake Stevens loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning and scored a run, but was unable to score two more runs and tie the score.

“It was a frustration that we couldn’t push two more runs across with only one out,” said Vikings co-coach Jim Willie.

Brad McGava won the pitching duel over Ryan Verdugo, who struck out 11 batters and gave up only one earned run.

Willie’s coaching partner, Rodger Anderson, said the team is still in the race for the playoffs, having two games left with Snohomish and one more with Cascade.
