The Hudson’s Bay guard combo of Jazmine Foreman and Amber Sylvester lit it up from long range against Meadowdale, especially in the second half. Sylvester was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers in the third quarter, when she scored 13 points and made her first five shots. And Foreman was 3-for-4 on 3s after halftime.
“My gosh! No. 4 (Sylvester) and No. 32 (Foreman), they were almost unstoppable,” Meadowdale senior Marelle Moehrle said. “It was like they could have closed their eyes and the ball was still gonna go in.”
Foreman finished with 28 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the field, Sylvester with 18 on a 7-for-12 effort.
Deep impact
Both teams shot well from outside. Hudson’s Bay was 9-for-20 on 3-pointers (45 percent) and Meadowdale was 8-for-16 (50 percent). The 17 total 3-pointers accounted for about two-fifths of the teams’ 128 total points. Rainier Beach holds the tourney record for most 3s in a game. The Vikings made 11 against Clarkston in 2004.
Nothing foul about it
Meadowdale continued to excel at the foul line, going 7-for-10 against Hudson’s Bay. In two state tourney games, the Mavericks have made 27 of 35 free throws (77.1 percent). Eryn Jones is 12-for-14. Entering this week, Meadowdale made 66.3 percent of its foul shots.

Jo Levin, Everett High’s athletic director, was the pubic address announcer for two games Thursday at KeyArena, including the Meadowdale/Hudson’s Bay quarterfinal. Levin, who was a star basketball player at Everett and Western Washington University, said she used to announce at the tourney when it was held in Seattle but stopped for a while when it moved to the Tacoma Dome. With the tourneys back in Seattle this year, at KeyArena and Bank of America Arena, she’s happy to help out again.
“It’s fun,” said Levin. “I just like to get involved.”
