Mill Creek Little League captured two District 1 All-Star championships, winning the majors softball title last month and the age 9-10 baseball division this past weekend.
Both teams qualified for their respective state tournaments.
The Mill Creek majors softball team, made up of players ages 11-12, won all four of its tournament games, outscoring its opponents 55-14 at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett.
Pitchers Alana Walkush, Taylor Harrington and Samantha Warren led Mill Creek. Katie Aydelott, Haley Balestreri, Kassidi Dean, Laina Delgado, Jillian Hampson, Dominique Kirton, Sheridan Lahn, Molly Jo Myers, Macy Tarbox and Kiana Zellmer all contributed to the offense and defense.
The team was managed by Jeff Hampson. He was assisted by coaches Loren Dean and Matt Harrington.
Mill Creek began the state tournament Saturday in Oak Harbor, winning its first game and losing its second in the double-elimination tourney. The state-championship game is scheduled for Thursday, with an additional game on Friday if necessary.
Meanwhile, the 9-10 Mill Creek baseball team posted a 4-0 record in the district tournament held in Snohomish. Mill Creek outscored its opponents 52-11, including a 5-2 victory over South Everett in Sunday’s championship game.
South Everett led the game 2-0 until Mill Creek’s starting pitcher, Mitchell DeGard, tied the contest with a two-run double and scored the go-ahead run on Dominic Hellman’s infield single. Isaiah Halim recorded three hits for Mill Creek.
Other members of the team included David Barr, Carson Burns, Cameron Gumke, Anthony Kodama, Aiden Lundquist, Kellen Mathis, Darren Melville, Braden O’Donnell, Brendan Sandico and Justin Vickery.
The team was managed by Mike Mathis. He was assisted by coaches Matt O’Donnell and Michael DeGard.
The state tournament begins July 13 in Richland.
Stilly Valley team claims title
Stilly Valley Little League won the age 9-10 District 1 All-Star Softball Tournament last month in Everett.
Stilly Valley posted a 4-0 record, including an 11-0 win over Lake Stevens in the championship game. Overall, Stilly Valley outscored its opponents 43-2. Riley Swanson pitched all four games, throwing two shutouts, allowing just three hits and striking out 61.
Other members of the team included Madison Agarpao, Brittani Boortz, Heather Broyles, Macie Butchart, Ava Cook, Ashtyn Falor, Erin Hester, Natalie Krueger, Megan Lawrence, Sierra Schmitz and Taryn Matherly.
