Bruce Guthrie pulled off a speed skating sweep.

The Edmonds resident won every race in his division as he claimed the overall championship in Combined Masters at the 2024 U.S. Long Track Age Group Nationals, which were held Saturday and Sunday in Roseville, Minnesota.

Guthrie, who is a member of Whatcom Speed Racing and trains at Lynnwood Ice Center, competes in the age 60-64 category, but the Combined Masters competition included competitors aged 50 and over.

Guthrie took first place in each of the four individual distances. He won the 500-meter time trial in a time of 55.93 seconds; the 800 pack style in 1:29.937; the 1,000 pack style in 1:54.395; and the 1,500 pack style in 3:05.357. The four victories gave Guthrie a perfect combined score of 40,000. The next-closest competitors scored 28,880.

Guthrie also teamed with Richard Fuhr and Paul Pudiate to win the inaugural racing of the Masters 6-lap Team Pursuit, as the trio clocked a time of 5:09.48 to set the mark for all future teams to aim at.

The national championship was the first of Guthrie’s career. He previously placed fourth in his classification at Long Track Age Group Nationals in 2002 and 2003 when he was in the 40-year-old category.
