Community roundup: Ex-GP standout named lacrosse All-American

Arianna Crusha is an All-American, and she had the opportunity to display her lacrosse skills at the national level.

The recent Glacier Peak High School graduate was one of 60 players selected to the first annual girls Adrenaline Lacrosse All-American Game, which took place June 23 in Frisco, Texas.

Crusha was one of the 30 players named to the North team, as she was selected as a defender. She was nominated by her club coach, Lyndsey Gillis of Seattle Starz — she plays midfield for her club team.

Crusha was on the field for almost the entire All-American Game, which was won by the South 9-7.

“I am honored to have even been nominated, and it was a privilege to have been able to play,” Crusha said via email.

Lynnwood’s Major captures pickleball gold

Tonja Major of Lynnwood earned a gold medal in the professional division at the 2018 GAMMA Pickleball Classic held over the weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Major and her partner Rob Cassidy claimed the title in the Mixed Doubles Pro Division. Major also teamed with Stephanie Lane to take third place in the Women Pro Doubles Division.

Meadowdale grad Simonson to coach SPU hoops

Meadowdale High School graduate Mike Simonson has been named the interim head coach of the Seattle Pacific University women’s basketball team. Simonson, who was the Falcons’ lead assistant the previous two seasons, takes over for Julie Heisey, who resigned last week after 13 seasons in charge. Simonson takes over a team that went 23-8 and reached the NCAA Division II West Regional.

Two locals to row for UW at Henley

A pair of rowers with local ties are rowing for the University of Washington at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta, which takes place this week on the River Thames in Great Britain. Oak Harbor High School graduate Brooke Pierson is part of Washington’s Women’s Eight, while Everett native Robert Karlen is part of the Huskies’ Men’s Eight.

Callens repeats as Flow Tour champ

Scott Callens captured the Pro Flowboard title for the second straight year at the FLOW Tour Pro/Am event in Snohomish, held Saturday at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. Jonathan Hintz was the winner in the Pro Bodyboard division. Other winners included: Female Flowboard: Maddie Anderson; Masters Flowboard: Kat Malone; Open Bodyboard: Aiden Fox Baily; Open Flowboard: George Kelly; Locals Only Bodyboard: Aiden Fox Bailey; Locals Only Flowboard: Alec Makris.
