Elks Hoop Shoot champion Tanner Ingle.

Tanner Ingle of Snohomish added another trophy to his growing collection Saturday by winning the boys 12-13 age division at the Elks Hoop Shoot regional competition in Vancouver.

Ingle previously won the Everett Elks Club Hoop Shoot and the state competition.

On Saturday, Ingle made 23 of 25 free throws to place first among competitors from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. He advances to the national Elks Club Hoop Shoot, which is scheduled for April 16 in Chicago. He will be one of 12 regional winners competing for the national championship.

Haughian places eighth

Marcus Haughian of Marysville earned All-America honors over the weekend by placing eighth in the 197-pound class at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Haughian, a senior at Colorado Mesa University, lost his opening-round match to Joe Gomez of Northern State, 4-2. Haughian rebounded to beat Cody Brundage of Newberry 10-5, then won by injury default over Kutztown’s Brandon Clark.

That landed Haughian in the match to decide seventh and eighth places, where he lost by pin to Ryan Parmely of Upper Iowa. The top eight placers in each weight class earned All-America recognition.

Haughian is a graduate of Marysville Pilchuck High School.

Ex-Wolves finish 1-2

Grant Grosvenor and Blake Nelson, both graduates of Jackson High School in Mill Creek, ran competing legs of the men’s distance medley relay on Friday at the NCAA indoor track and field national championships in Birmingham, Alabama.

Grosvenor, a 2011 Jackson alum who attends Oregon, and Nelson, a 2012 grad who is at Washington, ran the 800-meter legs. Oregon won the event in 9 minutes, 27.27 seconds, with the Huskies placing second in 9:28.0.

After Saturday’s second day, Oregon’s men and women were both indoor champions. Washington’s men finished sixth and the UW women placed 13th.
