Community roundup: Pro cornhole event coming to Everett

Plus, locals compete in youth track nationals and more.

The American Cornhole League comes to Everett this weekend when it holds its ACL Pro Shootout #4 and ACL Open #15 at Angel of the Winds Arena, with more than $20,000 at stake.

Competition takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the doors opening at 8 a.m. and competition beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Tickets for Friday’s Pro Shootout event can be purchased at angelofthewindsarena.com or ticketmaster.com. The competitions on Saturday and Sunday are free to the public.

Friday features Pro Singles, Pro Doubles, Senior Singles, Women’s Singles, High School Doubles, College Doubles, Junior Singles and Blind Draws, with the evening session at 6:30 p.m. being broadcast by CBS Sports Network

Saturday features Open Doubles and Sunday features Open Singles.

Locals compete at youth track nationals

Several Snohomish County high school and middle school track and field athletes competed at the Nike Outdoor Nationals held last week in Eugene Oregon.

Three competed in the elite divisions led by Mukilteo’s Kimberly Beard, who placed eighth in the girls hammer throw with a distance of 147 feet, 5 inches, despite being the only eighth grader in the field. Marysville’s Ryan Rushton placed 15th in the boys decathlon with a score of 5,592, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 1,500 meters. Marysville’s Brandon Moore placed 52nd in the boys mile in 4 minutes, 24.11 seconds.

In the emerging elite division, Monroe’s Branden Ganashamoorthy won the boys long jump in 22-11.75; Edmonds’ Adrianna Coleman took second in the girls hammer throw (134-4), fifth in the girls javelin (115-9) and sixth in the girls discus (123-6); and Lynnwood’s Tresley Love took eighth in the girls 400 (58.02).

In the freshman division, Everett’s T’Andre Waverly placed fifth in the 100 (11.38) and Arlington’s Noah Bumgardner was 16th in the boys two mile (10:37.15).

In the middle school division, Lynnwood’s Kennedy Shepard finished eighth in the girls 100 (12.75), while Lynnwood’s Symone Shepard placed 20th in preliminaries (13.63).

Pivec competes at NCAA track nationals

Lynnwood High School graduate Malia Pivec, now a junior on the University of Oregon women’s track and field team, was a participant in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships which took place June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.

Pivec, who transferred to Oregon last summer after beginning her college career at Boise State, placed 21st in her semifinal of the women’s steeplechase in a time of 10:23.96. Pivec qualified for nationals by placing 12th in the race at the West Preliminary on May 25-28 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
