Community sports roundup: Youth soccer team wins top tourney

The Everett-based Washington Rush 2003-born boys team won a tournament in Del Mar, California.

The surf is most definitely up for the Washington Rush 2003-born boys youth soccer team.

The Everett-based club team won a prestigious tournament last week when it claimed the Boys U17 Black division of the 2019 Surf Cup held July 27-29 in Del Mar, California.

The Rush went 2-0-1 in pool play of the 12-team bracket, tying for first in their pool and claiming a spot in the semifinals.

The Rush defeated Rebels East Elite of El Cajon, California, 1-0 in the semifinals on a goal by Jordan Ross. Then in the championship game against Downtown United Soccer Club from New York City, the contest was scoreless through regulation and went to penalty kicks.

Alex Hristov, Aidan Drought, Johnny Youngsman, Jordan Kim, Pedro Martinez, Nathan Lemoi and Ross scored as the Rush converted all seven of their kicks, and Lucas Haigh saved Downtown United’s seventh attempt to give the Rush the title.

The Rush went through the entire tournament without allowing a goal.

The other members of the team are Aaron Stapleton, Tony Louangrath, Ashton Wolf, Bridger Tautvydas, Eddy Olson, Ethan Borland, Kaiya McCann, Kota McCann, Nick Ramoso, RJ Johnson and Junior Phonmath.

Locals place at Loretta Lynn Nationals

Six Snohomish County residents competed at the 2019 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship held last Tuesday through Saturday at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Cobey Carper of Gold Bar led the way, placing 15th in Schoolboy 2 (ages 12-17) B/C and 19th in 250 B.

Mason Davis of Snohomish took 27th in 85cc (10-12) and 29th in 85cc (10-12) Limited, while Tank Serles of Granite Falls placed 29th and 30th in the same two events. Trey Valley of Everett placed 30th in Supermini 2 (13-16) and 32nd in Supermini 1 (12-15). In Women, Cayden Clements of Gold Bar finished 27th and Mikeyla Chambers of Marysville placed 38th. There were 42 competitors in each class.

Free youth soccer for foster kids

The Everett Youth Soccer Club is offering free recreational soccer for foster kids beginning with the fall season. The offer includes both Micros and Mods. For more information visit the club’s website.
