Everett coach Kevin Constantine is adding to the WHL’s Christmas fund as he was fined $500 by the league for his game misconduct during Sunday’s 7-1 loss in Portland.
Constantine was incensed there was no penalty called on what he thought was an illegal hit on Everett’s Ivan Nikolishin. Portland scored just 19 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead, and in the aftermath Constantine was shown the gate for arguing with the referee. Portland scored 26 seconds later on the resulting power play to begin the rout.
Talking to Constantine this afternoon about Sunday’s game, he acknowledged the role he played in the loss by taking the penalty, but he said he felt he had to do what he could to protect his players.
In other notes, winger Dawson Leedahl has returned to Everett. Leedahl, who’s dealing with a knee injury, spent the past couple weeks recuperating at home in Saskatoon. He continues to have the injury re-evaluated in the hope of a December return.
Center Remi Laurencelle (ankle) was back participating in practice today, though he wore a no-contact jersey. Winger Nik Malenica (upper body) was a full participant.
