The Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame’s class of 2023 will be inducted at the organization’s annual banquet on Sept. 27 at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. Here’s the next in a series of bios of the 2023 class highlighted by The Herald:
Gina Carbonatto
Inducted as: Athlete
High School: Lake Stevens class of 2003
Sport: Softball
Carbonatto is one of the greatest who ever played for the University of the Pacific softball team.
Carbonatto was a two-sport star at Lake Stevens, earning All-Wesco and All-Area recognition in both basketball and softball. She was a four-time All-Wesco selection in softball as a middle infielder, helping the Vikings twice finish in the top five at the state tournament.
Softball was the sport she played collegiately, and at Pacific she moved from infield to center field. In 2004 Carbonatto was named the Big West Freshman Field Player of the Year; she was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2004, 2006 and 2007; and in 2006 she was the Big West Co-Softball Player of the Year and Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was also named the team’s Most Inspirational Player all four years, and she was named an NCFA All-American three times. She finished her college career with a .401 batting average, and in 2012 she became just the second player in program history to have her number retired. For her accomplishments she was named The Herald’s 2006 Woman of the Year in Sports.
After graduating Carbonatto played professionally for two seasons as a member of the New England Riptide of the National Pro Fastpitch League, being named an All-Pro in 2007.
Carbonatto has since become a coach. She was an assistant with the University of Washington softball team when it won the national championship in 2009, and she is currently the head coach at Santa Clara University.
