County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023 bio: Rich Haldi

The WSU alum and longtime EvCC athletic administrator helped found the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame.

The Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame’s class of 2023 will be inducted at the organization’s annual banquet on Sept. 27 at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. Here’s the next in a series of bios of the 2023 class highlighted by The Herald:

Rich Haldi

Inducted as: Sports contributor

Sports: Multiple

Haldi has been involved in the Snohomish County sports scene in various capacities since 1964. His most notable contributions came as an athletic administrator at Everett Community College and in helping found the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame.

Haldi, a Spokane native, graduated from Washington State University and was hired as a teacher and coach at Snohomish Junior High School in 1964. Legendary Snohomish High School football coach Dick Armstrong made him the coach of the ninth-grade football team in 1965.

Following a stint in the military from 1966-71, Haldi returned to the area to become Everett CC’s student activities associate director. That began a 37-year stint at Everett CC which concluded with being the school’s vice president of student services. During those years he helped develop the school’s intramural activities program, supplied leadership for the creation of athletic scholarships, and was involved in planning the school’s Walt Price Student Fitness Center.

During this time Haldi also served 20 years as a coach of youth baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. Following retirement he became a founding member of the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame Committee, and he serves as one of the committee’s ambassadors, as well as the memorabilia chair. He is a member of both the Northwest Athletic Conference and Everett CC Athletics halls of fame.
