The state Fish and Wildlife Commission listened to input from recreational and commercial crabbers at its Aug. 6-7 meeting in Olympia, as promised, but came to no public conclusion. Sport crabbers, as expected, called for an increase in recreational crabbing opportunities in Puget Sound, while commercials said significant reductions to their catch quota would harm the future of the industry.
The commission is expected to take action on a final Puget Sound crab management policy, and select one of the recreational season options, at its Oct. 1-2 public meeting in Olympia.
