E-W claims first place in South

MILL CREEK – The Warriors and Timberwolves went into Friday’s boys tennis match-up tied atop the Wesco South. After Edmonds-Woodway’s 4-3 win, the Warriors stand alone at 10-1. Jackson fell into a tie with 9-2 Shorewood for second in the division.

E-W won all three of the doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, the team of Nico Clairmont and Scott Sheldon held their Jackson opponent to just two points.

“We worked for most of a week on trying to strengthen our doubles teams’ lineups,” E-W coach Dan Crist said.

Mountlake Terrace 5, Mariner 2: At Mountlake Terrace, No. 1 single Andrew Lee led his Hawks teammates to the Wesco South win. Roy McMahon came from behind in the first set of his No. 4 singles match to win it for Mountlake Terrace. Hawks coach Cena Miller said her No. 1 doubles team of Chance Phok and John Floresca has shown progress in all phases of its game.

District 1 diving qualification meet: At Marysville, defending Class 3A state champion Samantha Young of Shorecrest far exceeded the state meet standard of 280 points, scoring 459.20 points at the Marysville-Pilchuck pool. No other 3A diver met the state standard. No divers reached the 4A standard of 325 points.
