TACOMA – Edmonds-Woodway built a five-point lead through three quarters, then withstood a determined Garfield comeback bid in the final period Thursday morning to nab a 65-63 victory in a loser-out game at the Class 4A state boys basketball tournament at the Tacoma Dome.
The Warriors, who dropped into the consolation bracket after losing to Kentridge in Wednesday’s opener, had four players score in double figures against Garfield, led by center Casey Hamlett, who had 16 points. Forward Eric Greenwood scored 13 points, and forward Connor Donaldson and guard Max Ortiz each added 12.
Edmonds-Woodway, which shot the ball poorly against Kentridge, was much better against Garfield, converting 24 of 46 chances from the field (52.0 percent), 4-of-7 from beyond the 3-point stripe (57.0), and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line (83.0).
The victory sends Edmonds-Woodway into another loser-out game at 11 a.m. Friday against Snohomish.
