The first quarter is over and there hasn’t been much to talk about yet. Neither offense has been productive, though the Huskies ended the first quarter by putting together a couple of good running plays for Louis Rankin. It’s interesting that Kenny James hasn’t played much. Up until today, James had played the first quarter and Rankin the second. Perhaps the Husky coaches saw something that led them to believe the quicker, shiftier Rankin would have more success, and he has so far. He has 29 yards on three carries on this drive.
The Husky defense is completly stopping the Arizona run, but I’m a little concerned how the secondary is playing, as usual. The Huskies have to get pressure on quarterback Willie Tuitama.
The referees blew a call late in the first quarter on a punt return by the Huskies. They said Marlon Wood called a fair catch, but it looked like Wood was just telling his blockers to clear out, and the argument afterward seemed to confirm that. Besides, I’ve never seen Wood call a fair catch.
James is back in on the first play of the second quarter and made a nice play on a screen pass.
