Ryder Romano is getting a chance to play at one of the most prestigious youth hockey tournaments in North America.
The 8-year-old from Everett was invited to compete at the Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament on July 1-7 in Edmonton, Alberta. A total of 225 players ages 9-10 from across North America were invited to take part. Romano will will compete as a member of the BC Junior Canucks.
Romano, who plays forward, has been competing with Everett Youth Hockey the past five years. He was selected through a invitation-only tryout for players from Washington and British Columbia. Romano was the only player from Washington selected for this year’s tournament.
The Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament began in 1990 and has seen more than 200 alumni go on to play in the NHL. Among those who played in the tournament are current NHL stars Auston Matthews, Quinn and Jack Hughes, and Steven Stamkos, as well as former Everett Silvertips stars Zach Hamill, Noah Juulsen, Ryan Murray and Dustin Wolf.
