Everett excels on first day of Class 3A girls district golf tourney

LYNNWOOD – Everett’s Maggie Burton is just a junior, but she has played in the state golf tournament in both her freshman and sophomore years.

On Monday she took a step closer to making it a third straight year.

Burton fired a 10-over-par 75 to earn medalist honors on Day 1 of the Class 3A District 1 girls golf tournament at Lynnwood Municipal Golf Course. Burton’s teammate Stefanie Soelling stayed close behind by firing a 13-over 78 to keep her within striking distance heading into today’s second and final round.

The top 27 girls made the cut of 109 plus ties. The top 10 from today’s final round will qualify for the state tournament at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham on May 22 and 23.
