David Lynn has built a men’s golf dynasty at Oklahoma Christian University, and last week he picked up yet another honor.
The Everett native was named the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference’s Men’s Golf Coach of the Year for the third time last Thursday.
Lynn, who is in the ninth season of his second stint as Oklahoma Christian’s head coach, guided the Eagles to the Heartland Conference title and the No. 1 ranking in the South Central Region.
“Being recognized as Coach of the Year is extremely satisfying,” Lynn said on Oklahoma Christian’s website. “The players and my graduate assistant, Casey Rebmann, have all put in a tremendous amount of work to get us to the point where we are this year. I am so thankful to all of them and this award is truly a reflection of all our hard work together.”
Lynn was also named the conference’s Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2016. He won five Coach of the Year honors when Oklahoma Christian was part of the NAIA Sooner Athletic Conference.
Tingelstad added to regional watch list
Marysville Pilchuck High School graduate Trent Tingelstad, now a junior on the University of Louisiana Monroe baseball team, was added to the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award mid-season watch list. The award is given annually to an NCAA Division I player from programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma based on performance at the plate, as well as academics and personal integrity.
Tinglestad, who’s in his first season with the Warhawks after transferring from Everett Community College, is batting .340 with five home runs, 34 RBI and 32 walks in 41 games. He leads the team in OPS at 1.033.
EvCC baseball rises to No. 1 ranking
The Everett Community College baseball team claimed the top spot in the most recent Northwest Athletic Conference coaches poll. The Trojans, who are 14-2 in North Region play and 30-6 overall, received all eight first-place votes.
Edmonds, which is tied for second in the North Region at 11-5 and is 26-9 overall, dropped two spots in the poll from third to fifth.
In the NWAC softball coaches poll, Edmonds (16-6, 27-8) moved up two spots from No. 6 to No. 4.
