Everett takes over second in Wesco N.

EVERETT – The Everett softball team is just trying to keep pace in the Wesco North.

The Seagulls (6-1 in league, 9-1 overall) captured a 6-0 victory over Stanwood Friday night to take sole possession of second place and remain one game back of current leader Monroe (7-0 in league).

“(In terms of the standings) It’s a good win for us and keeps us within game of Monroe,” Everett coach Kyle Peacocke said.

Jessica Carey broke open the scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run over the left field fence. Carey finished 3-for-4 with two RBI.

“She is our leadoff hitter and when she is hitting the ball, our offense seems to roll right along,” Peacocke said of the senior.

Freshman Chailah Formon (first varsity start) had an RBI single in the fifth to give Seagulls starting pitcher Cory Mattson an insurance run.

Mattson proved she did not need the run as she pitched a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts.

Everett plays Liberty at 2 p.m. today at the University of Washington softball field.
