Everett takes sole possession of 1st

EVERETT – Co-captains Tom Bagley and Brian Turner both posted victories as Everett defeated Mariner 44-22 Tuesday to take sole possession of first place in the Western Conference South Division.

“The kids came out ready to wrestle,” Everett coach Brien Elliott said. “They worked really hard.”

Bagley and teammate Josh Sheppard both posted come-from-behind victories. Bagley was behind 2-1 after one period at 160 pounds and won 8-4.

Shorewood 38, Mountlake Terrace 30: Shorewood got its first Wesco South victory. Chris Morey of Shorewood scored a 12-9 decision at 189 pounds to help the Thunderbirds.

Mount Vernon 32, Marysville-Pilchuck 28: Mount Vernon’s Richard Kowell scored in the last five seconds of the 275-pound match to take a 4-2 decision and lead the Bulldogs to the Wesco North victory.

Lake Stevens 68, Arlington 3: Lake Stevens won all but one match in the Wesco North meet. The 125-pound bout was a rematch of the 1999 state finals between Burke Barnes and Jimmy Jayne, with Barnes pinning Jayne.
