Everett’s Moore wins 800 meters at Pasco Invitational

PASCO – Everett High School’s Cori Moore shined among some of the state’s top athletes Saturday, winning the 800-meter run and placing second in the 400 during the prestigious Pasco Invitational.

Moore, a sophomore, held off junior Becca Noble of John Rogers High School to win the 800 by nearly a second with a time of two minutes, 14.42 seconds.

Moore’s strong performances helped the Seagulls finish the 60-team event in 11th place.

Lake Stevens senior Taryn Adams, who finished second in the 300 hurdles, helped the Vikings finish the 42-year old track meet to a third-place finish with 38 points -just 17 points behind first-place Benson High School.

Snohomish senior Nicole Luckenbach led the team with a second-place finish in the discus followed by Lucy Miller’s fourth place in the 1600 and Carly Osness’ seventh place finish in the 100 hurdles. The Panthers ended the day with 20 points and 10th place overall.

On the boys side, Chase Mancuso placed second in the discus with a throw of 171 feet, and eight inches to lead Kamiak to a 19th-place finish. Jake Stevens, of Everett, placed third in the shot put and fourth in the discus, which helped the Seagulls finish with 12 points along with South Whidbey for 23rd place.

Jackson placed second in the distance relay behind first-place Jesuit High School (10:26.97) with a time of 10:33.50. Kamiak followed up in fourth place with a time of 10:37.0.

Boys soccer

Snohomish 7, Stanwood 0: After unleashing 21 shots on-goal in the first half, the Panthers broke through with seven goals in the final 40 minutes of the Wesco North game. Brandon Crutchfield and Seth Wilson each scored two goals and teammates Taylor Cochran, Justin Abel and Keegan Uderlitz added a goal.

At Snohomish

Goals-Snohomish: Crutchfield 2, Wilson 2, Cochran, Abel, UderIitz. Goalkeepers-Snohomish: Riley, Roberts. Stanwood: Knutson. Records-Stanwood 2-6-2 overall. Snohomish 10-1.

Oak Harbor 5, Arlington 3: Blake Ward scored two goals and brothers Bryan and Ryne Sakkema each scored in Oak Harbor’s Wesco North victory.

Fastpitch softball

Archbishop Murphy 6-2 Concrete 4-1: Katlin Kennedy struck out nine batters to earn the victory for Archbishop Muprhy in the first game of a doubleheader sweep. Samantha Thompson batted 3-for-3 with a double for Concrete in the first game. The Wildcats scored a run in the eighth inning in the nightcap to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Concrete 5-4, Archbishop Murphy 2-8: Nick Aldridge struck out six batters, collected two singles and knocked in a run for Concrete, which won the first game in the Northwest A doubleheader. Archbishop Murphy’s Nick Cathras, who batted 4-for-4 in the opener, had two hits and two RBI for the Wildcats in their victory in the nightcap to split the doubleheader.
