For immediate release Evergreen Speedway

Saturday night at Evergreen Speedway was an action packed show with full fields of cars.

The Figure 8 nationals had 27 cars time in and take the green Flag. The Speedway Chevrolet Super Late Models had 13 cars time in for qualifying. The number 16 car, driven by Daniel Moore and sponsored by Work’n More and Wolverine Boots and Apparel, was in the number one spot with a 17.343. Daniel has shown the last few weeks he is going to be strong down the stretch to the end of the season. 19 Les Schwab Tire Street stocks were on hand, setting up what would be an exciting main event. Points leaders Darrel Lutovsky and Frank Cowgill coming in the event tied had a lot on the line. In the Foster Press Mini Stocks there were a dozen cars running for the trophy.

Cowgill and Lutovsky were separated by one point after the heat race events with Cowgill taking 2nd and Lutovsky 3rd in their heats. When the green flag flew for the Street Stock Main event, the action was fast and furious. Numerous caution flags and a lot of damage to many of the cars made for some hot tempers. During a caution flag, brought out by a front stretch incident that involved no less the defending champion, Lane Sundholm, the 66 car of Ryan Hansen, the 15 car of Dave Stewart Jr., and points front runner Darrel Lutovsky. The put crews of the 48 team of Tom Hughs, the 31 of Jason Fraser, the 00 of Naima Lang and the 2 of Michael Fritz which pit near Sundholm all chipped in hands and expertise, getting Sundholm back on the track without losing a lap after the crash. Returning to the track, Sundholm had a lot of spots to make back up to get to the front. Sundholm did everything he needed to do for the win. In victory lane, the 00 car was a mess, missing the entire nose of the car. No one was more surprised with the win then Sundholm, crediting all the people that helped to get him back on the track. Points front runner Frank Cowgill, who also lost a radiator during the race, finished one lap down in 9th with Lutovsky down 4 laps in 16th.

In the Foster Press Mini Stock division, the battle came right down to the finish. Early leader Michael Fritz had former champion Scott LaCross behind him. With the caution coming out, LaCross opted for the outside lane on the restart since Fritz was doing a terrific job of holding the low groove. After making the pass on the outside the caution flew again. Points leader, Kris Harriss, tucked in on the back bumper of LaCross and made the pass under Fritz, who went to the outside on the restart. The finish was LaCross with Harriss 3 tenths of a second back then Fritz.

It was double header night for the Speedway Chevrolet Super Late Models. The first race was sponsored by PEMCO and with that came the PEMCO Roadside Chain Saw Carver’s trophy, a coveted handmade (via a chainsaw) trophy which many of the drivers wanted. Naima Lang, celebrating his 40th birthday, brought home the win. The second main was won by Jason Fraser.

The Pawn X-change Super Figure 8’s had an action packed race. Scheduled for 100 laps, the race was cut short when due to many cautions and red flags ran them up to the track curfew. Many drivers turned out for this big event. Former champions on hand, Steve Cox, Steve Peters who have been running only select races this season, along with the return of Pat Clark made for an exciting race. At the finish there were only 3 cars on the lead lap. The win going to Brian Gunderson, 2nd was Troy Siminer and 3rd, another former champion and winner from a couple of weeks ago, Glen Davis. New track record holder Ricky Deitz finished one spot behind defending champion, John Carlson in 9th.
