As the old Wide World of Sports opener used to go, today we’re spanning the globe.
NASCAR is deep in the heart of Texas, the open-wheelers of IndyCar are in Florida and the Formula One folks are in Bahrain.
1. On the beer and bar-b-que circuit, I like Dale Earnhardt Jr. to win Sunday’s Sprint Cup Samsung 500, finally getting both himself and Hendrick Motorsports off the schneid.
I know, I know. I’ve said it before.
But again, as Bullwinkle always said to Rocky: “This time for sure!”
I’ve got a feeling Carl Edwards or Kevin Harvick will finish first in Saturday’s Nationwide O’Reilly 300 … let’s go with Harvick to win.
2. In the land of “Early Bird Specials” and hurricanes, I like Dan Wheldon to keep Chip Ganassi in the win column at Sunday’s Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
3. On the whine and cheese circuit — which I don’t need for my Grand Slam of Prognostication, by the way — I’m going to stick with who’s fast and say Ferrari’s Felipe Massa repeats as champion at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Massa was quickest in practice and we all know how important being out front in this series is.
Did I say F1 cars are fragile? Take a look at the picture of Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren with the F1 practice story on the right under “national/international racing.” And he just slid of the track into protective tires.(of course he was probably going 185+).
Eye candy You’ve probably seen this before, but I like it. A kangaroo jumps into the middle of a race at Australia’s Bathurst Raceway, and surprisingly lives to tell the rest of the herd what it’s like.
