Lindsay Whalen of the Minnesota Lynx and Sylvia Fowles of the Chicago Sky have been named the WNBA’s Players of the Month for August respectively.
Whalen is the third-consecutive Lynx player to win the POM award, following Rebekkah Brunson and Seimone Augustus. Whalen averaged 14.2 points pe
r game and a league-leading 5.8 assists in August. She has helped lead the Lynx to a WNBA-best 24-6 record. If Minnesota wins its remaining four games, they will tie the league-record for wins in a season with 28.
Fowles has almost single-handily kept the Sky alive in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. She averaged 20.5 points and a league-leading 11.9 rebounds per contest in August.
Minnesota rookie Maya Moore also won her second consecutive Rookie of the Month award. Moore led all rookies in scoring (12.3 ppg), rebounding (4.6 rpg), steals (1.8 spg) and minutes (27.2 mpg).
The Lynx finished 11-2 in August.
