Everett AquaSox infielder Kevin Mailloux has been named the Northwest League Player of the Week for Aug. 9-15.
Mailloux batted .435 with three home runs and seven runs batted and hit safely in all seven games. Going into Monday night’s game at Boise, Mailloux is on a 10-game hitting streak.
Mailloux, a 24-year-old native of Windsor, Ontario, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 45th round of the 2009 draft out of Canisius College in New York. He began his professional career with the Peoria Mariners of the Rookie-level Arizona League, hitting .311 with five home runs and 37 RBI in 46 games. He was named to the AZL All-Star Team as a second baseman before being transferred to Everett for four games at the end of the 2009 season.
Two AquaSox players have been honored as NWL Player of the Week in 2010. Outfielder Kevin Rivers was selected for the period of June 21-27.
In other news, former AquaSox pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the second straight week. Wilhelmsen made three starts for the AquaSox this season, and is currently 3-0 with a 0.45 earned-run average for the Single-A Clinton LumberKings.
