Gymnastics teams hit the jackpot in Reno

Everett-based Leading Edge Gymnastics won a pair of team championships at the Flips USA Invitational, held Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in Reno, Nev.

The event attracted 800 gymnasts from around the country.

Leading Edge won the Level 4 and Level 5 team titles.

In the 9-10 age group of Level 4, Leading Edge gymnasts captured the top three spots in the all-around competition. Bailey Rorie of Everett won the floor exercises and placed first in the all-around with a score of 36.15. Kendall Shelford of Snohomish won the vault and placed second in the all-around (35.725), and Olivia Juarez of Everett won the beam and placed third in the all-around.

Leading the way for the Level 5 team was Marysa Eastman of Marysville, who won the floor exercises and placed second in the all-around (35.85), and Jordan Widener of Snohomish, who placed third in the all-around (35.125).

This past weekend, Leading Edge’s Level 7 squad placed third among 15 teams at the Pacific Edge Challenge in Lincoln City, Ore. Lauren Bath of Everett led the team by winning the all-around with a score of 35.60.

Bowling

Cascade hangs onto first place: Cascade bowlers rolled the three highest series of the week as the Bruins maintained their lead in the Everett High School Mixed Bowling League.

Cascade finished the week with 349 points. Everett was in second with 337.

Jason Wilson of Cascade bowled the high series for the boys (723). He was followed by teammates Jordan Plunkett (649) and Steve Wilson (645).

Les Moore of Jackson rolled the boys’ high game of the week (279).

Among the girls, Candice Airport of Mariner rolled the high game (192), and Kali Mudie of Lynnwood bowled the high series (489).

Wrestling

Gilman captures title: Dalton Gilman of the Lake Stevens Wrestling Club captured first place in the 55-pound midget division Jan. 31 at the Washington State Folkstyle Championships in Bellingham.

Gilman, a three-time state champion, defeated his opponent in the finals, 12-0.

Gilman, 8, is a second-grader at Sultan Elementary School.

Soccer

Silver Lake edges Snohomish United: The Silver Lake U-12 girls soccer team defeated Snohomish United 2-1 on Jan. 31 to advance to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

Brianna Ellis and Kaeli Eberth scored for Silver Lake.

Figure Skating

Local skaters to perform: Several members of the Seattle Skating Club, based at the Olympic View Arena in Mountlake Terrace, are scheduled to skate Saturday in a benefit show for Children’s Hospital.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at KeyArena in Seattle.

Among the Snohomish County skaters slated to participate are Stacy Lindbloom of Brier, Krista Vagen of Edmonds, Cheryl Collins of Mukilteo, Marissa Mork of Edmonds, Sarah Gonzales of Arlington, Brook Watson of Mountlake Terrace, Nicole Muliadi of Lynnwood, Kayla Hatch of Mukilteo, Lauren Buchanan of Edmonds and Amanda Hill of Mountlake Terrace.
