RENTON — Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Wednesday that he still doesn’t know which quarterback will start this weekend, but he added that Matt Hasselbeck could be an option.
“Maybe I’m being overly optimistic,” Holmgren said, “but he’s been working on the (physical training) program they have for him.”
Hasselbeck has been out two games because of a bulging disk in his back. Holmgren said that if he can’t play in Sunday’s game against San Francisco, Seneca Wallace would start for the second consecutive week.
Hasselbeck is not expected to practice Wednesday afternoon, but Holmgren said he will have to practice at some point this week if he is going to play in the game.
“It would be a big boost,” he said of the possibility that Hasselbeck returns this week.
Holmgren added that the team’s 1-5 start will have no bearing on when Hasselbeck returns to the lineup.
“When he can play, he will play,” Holmgren said. “He wants to play. And as soon as he can play, he’ll play.”
