The NHL’s San Jose Sharks announced cuts from their rookie camp, and the interesting part is that Tips goaltender Thomas Heemskerk was not among them. It seems Heemskerk’s strong play during rookie games earned him a closer look.
This is great for Heemskerk, who is in San Jose as a non-drafted invitee and appears to at least be putting himself on the prospect map. Just so you know, there’s no real danger of Heemskerk not playing in Everett this season, even if he earns a contract. As a 19-year-old he can only play in San Jose or Everett, and it’s almost unheard of for NHL teams to keep goalies that young.
