Highland Chr. beats Lopez

ARLINGTON — Highland Christian quarterback Vince Kurtzenacker passed for three touchdowns and ran for two as Highland Christian eliminated Lopez from postseason contention.

“That was a big win,” Highland Christian coach Joey Brown said. “It eliminated Lopez Island and made us postseason eligible in our first season, so that’s a big deal.”

Craig Crawford caught two touchdown passes, Jeff Kelly caught one, and Caleb and Stormee Brown eached rushed for a touchdown for Highland Christian.

Joey Brown said that the defense came up big for Highland Christian, singling out Danny Jahraus, Stormee Brown, who each had six solo tackles.

Girls swim and dive

M-P’s Clark wins district diving: Marysville-Pilchuck sophomore Sarah Clark won the District 1 diving qualification meet with a score of 356.35 Saturday.

“She’s a dominating force for Wesco,” Marysville-Pilchuck Jackie Hodgins said.

Clark, whose score was good enough to qualify her for state, broke the school record for total score in a six-dive event earlier this season. Hodgins said she’s confident Clark can set the record in an 11-dive event.

Kamiak’s Fiona Weeks also qualified for state with a score of 332.15.

Edmonds-Woodway 432, Meadowdale 299.5, Mountlake Terrace 213, Lynnwood 108.5: At Lynnwood, Danielle Holstein of Edmonds-Woodway won two individual events as she swam state-qualifying times in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.71) and the 500 free (5:18.87)as the Warriors dominated the Edmonds District meet.

Teammate Ashley Jay finished second to Holstein in both events, but also qualified with times of 2:01.02 in the 200 free and 5:19.14 in the 500 free.

Meadowdale’s Kina Ackerman was third in the 500 free, but also qualified for state with a time of 5:24.20.
