Holmgren happy to be Moss free

KIRKLAND – After seeing Randy Moss torch his teams for 31 receptions, 630 yards and six touchdowns in five career meetings, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren is relieved not to have to face the receiver Friday when the Seahawks host the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason finale.

“Randy was, in my opinion, the best,” Holmgren said Wednesday. “He really was the best. We played against him so many times; there aren’t many guys like him around.”

Moss was traded to the Oakland Raiders, a team the Seahawks won’t play until the 2006 regular season.

The Seahawks have faced Moss in each of the past three seasons, when he caught 18 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. The only season Holmgren faced Moss while coaching the Green Bay Packers, the then-Vikings receiver had 13 receptions for 343 yards and three touchdowns in two meetings.

Blackout decision today: There is still a possibility that Friday’s game against Minnesota could be blacked out locally, although chances are it will be televised.

Television coverage of the preseason home opener on Aug. 22 was blacked out because it was a nationally televised game. Friday’s game is scheduled to be televised on KONG-TV (Channel 6).

Tougher security: Fans who plan to attend Friday’s game are being made aware of more thorough security patdowns and limited alcohol sales.

Commissioner Paul Tagliabue instituted the increased security at all games.

“This new requirement is not a result of any specific threat information,” Tagliabue said in a press release.

Alcohol sales will be cut off at halftime because of the late start time (6 p.m.).

Quick slants: Safety Terreal Bierria, a native of hurricane-ravaged Slidell, La., said Wednesday that he had finally contacted the last two members of his family, both of whom were healthy. But Bierria received word that his offseason home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. … Quarterback Seneca Wallace will probably see the bulk of the action in Friday’s preseason game against Minnesota. The starters aren’t expected to play more than a quarter. Rookie David Greene likely will finish the game at quarterback.
