Hot tickets: E-W faces Cedarcrest in Wesco 3A soccer showdown

The first-place clash between the Warriors and Red Wolves is one of several notable prep events this week.

Five non-football prep events to keep an eye on this week:

GIRLS SWIMMING: Snohomish at Kamiak, 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. For the unbeaten and Wesco North-leading Panthers, this is the first of two meets this week against Wesco South powers. After the showdown against Kamiak, Snohomish faces Jackson in another intriguing matchup Thursday afternoon at WEST Coast Aquatics in Mill Creek.

GIRLS SOCCER: Edmonds-Woodway at Cedarcrest, 7 p.m. Tuesday. With five league matches remaining for both teams, Edmonds-Woodway and Wesco 3A newcomer Cedarcrest are tied atop the conference standings with 24 points apiece. This first-place showdown is one of several pivotal matchups remaining for both teams in the Wesco 3A title race.

VOLLEYBALL: Jackson at Monroe, 7 p.m. Tuesday. At the midway point of conference play, Jackson is second in the Wesco 4A standings with a 5-2 league record and Monroe is in a three-way tie for third place at 4-3. Under the new postseason format, the top five Wesco teams advance to the Class 4A Wesco/KingCo bi-district tournament, with the top two earning first-round byes. In their season-opening meeting last month, Jackson beat Monroe in a five-set thriller.

GIRLS SOCCER: Lake Stevens at Kamiak, 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Just past the midway point of conference play, Lake Stevens is tied with Jackson atop the Wesco 4A standings with 22 points and Kamiak sits in third place with 16 points. This likely is the Vikings’ toughest remaining test until a showdown with Jackson in the regular-season finale. It’s a rematch of Lake Stevens’ 1-0 win over Kamiak last month.

VOLLEYBALL: Bearcat Invitational Tournament, 8 a.m. Saturday at Monroe H.S. The tournament’s 10 teams include host Monroe, Lake Stevens, Shorewood and three KingCo 4A schools, including unbeaten North Creek and second-place Eastlake. This could provide an opportunity for Lake Stevens and Monroe to test themselves against KingCo 4A competition ahead of next month’s Wesco-KingCo bi-district tournament.
