Hot tickets: Jackson, Lake Stevens battle for Wesco 4A soccer crown

This busy week of prep sports also includes district competition in cross country, boys tennis and girls soccer.

With fall sports regular seasons wrapping up and the postseason getting underway, here are some non-football events to keep an eye on this week:

Volleyball: Glacier Peak at Monroe, 7 p.m. Tuesday. With three conference matches remaining for each team, the Grizzlies and Bearcats are part of a three-way tie for second place in Wesco 4A. This match is pivotal in the race for the league’s No. 2 seed, which receives a first-round bye in the upcoming Class 4A Northwest/Sea-King bi-district tournament. In their first meeting this season, Glacier Peak rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Monroe in five sets.

Boys Tennis: 3A Northwest District Tournament, 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Arlington H.S. The top four finishers in both singles and doubles advance to the 3A state tournament next May in the Tri-Cities.

Girls soccer: Lake Stevens at Jackson, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Everett Memorial Stadium. This regular-season finale will determine the Wesco 4A title. Lake Stevens and four-time defending Wesco 4A champion Jackson are tied atop the conference standings with 11-0-1 records. The teams played to a scoreless draw in their first meeting earlier this month.

Cross country: Northwest District Championships, 10 a.m. Saturday at South Whidbey H.S. Boys and girls runners from across the district compete for spots in next week’s state meet. The order of the nine races: 3A girls, 4A girls, 3A boys, 4A boys, 1A girls, 2A girls, 1A boys, 2A boys, 2B/1B boys.

Girls soccer: 4A Northwest/Sea-King bi-district tournament, 2 p.m. Saturday at various sites. Wesco 4A seeds 3-5 square off against KingCo 4A teams in loser-out matches to open the 12-team bi-district tournament, which consists of five Wesco teams and seven KingCo squads.
