Here are four local prep events this week to keep an eye on:
1. Track and field: 4A-3A state meets, Thursday-Saturday. How many Wesco athletes will bring home medals from Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma? One athlete to watch: Lake Stevens’ Noah Wallace, whose personal-best time of 1 minute, 52.61 seconds in the 800-meter run is No. 1 in the state’s 4A ranks.
2. Softball: 3A state tournament, Friday/Saturday. Four Wesco 3A teams will be competing at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. Everett opens against Holy Names (9 a.m. Friday), Snohomish against Lake Washington (9 a.m. Friday), Meadowdale against Garfield (noon Friday) and Edmonds-Woodway against Kelso (noon Friday).
3. Boys soccer: Cedarcrest vs. Archbishop Murphy, 6 p.m. Friday. Two Cascade Conference rivals face off in a 2A state tournament semifinal contest at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium in Sumner. The winner of this game plays either Mountlake Terrace or East Valley (Yakima) on Saturday for the state title. Murphy outscored Cedarcrest 7-0 in their two regular-season meetings.
4. Baseball: Edmonds-Woodway vs. Gig Harbor, 7 p.m. Friday. After losing their last three regular-season games, the Warriors have reeled off five consecutive playoff victories to qualify for this 3A state semifinal contest at Safeco Field. Gig Harbor figures to present a tough challenge — the Tides sport a 22-4 overall record, and South Sound Conference 3A and 3A District 3/4 tournament titles
