Hot tickets: What to watch this week in high school sports

Among the highlights are two softball showdowns and a pair of intriguing Wesco 3A/2A soccer matches.

Five prep sports events to watch this week:

Softball: Glacier Peak at Lake Stevens, 4 p.m. Tuesday. Two weeks ago, Glacier Peak beat defending 4A state champion Jackson on a walk-off homer. Last week, the Grizzlies routed reigning state runner-up Monroe 23-1. The next big test for GP is defending Wesco 4A co-champion Lake Stevens in a battle for first place, after the Vikings beat Jackson 4-1 Monday.

Baseball: Jackson at Cascade, 4 p.m. Tuesday. Jackson won the opener of this two-game set last Friday in a 1-0 pitchers’ duel. With 4-1 conference records, these two teams are in a three-way tie with Monroe atop the Wesco 4A standings.

Softball: Everett vs. Meadowdale, 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Field (Everett). Meadowdale beat a pair of reigning 3A state semifinalists in its past two contests, snapping Snohomish’s 37-game Wesco 3A/2A win streak and routing Marysville Pilchuck 11-1. Next up for the Mavs is a talented Everett team that was 8-2 going into Monday’s play.

Boys soccer: Edmonds-Woodway vs. Meadowdale, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Edmonds Stadium. This clash of Edmonds School District rivals features two teams near the top of the Wesco 3A/2A standings. Entering Monday night, Meadowdale was in second place with 18 points and E-W was tied for fourth with 14.

Boys soccer: Shorewood vs. Snohomish, 7 p.m. Friday at Shoreline Stadium. Entering Monday night, Shorewood was third in the Wesco 3A/2A standings with 15 points and had allowed just one goal in six conference matches. Snohomish was right behind, tied for fourth place with 14 points.
