It’s a full-color push for Felix’s Cy Young effort

Four days before Felix Hernandez makes his final start in an effort to win the American League Cy Young Award, the Mariners produced a full-color one-page fact sheet that was distributed to the media before tonight’s game.

No, this isn’t a late in-your-face push to get the national media on the Felix bandwagon. While Hernandez’s statistical highlights were e-mailed to reporters around the country a few days ago, only those at the game tonight got the color presentation, which shows Hernandez preparing to deliver a pitch.

Among the statistics presented:

X Hernandez leads the major leagues with 28 quality starts, including a club-record 12 straight quality starts.

X Hernandez, 18-5, has a 2.15 ERA in 10 no-decisions and received 2.28 runs of support in those games.

X ESPN.com’s Cy Young Predictor ranked Hernandez first in the AL with 181.5 Cy Young points and Kansas City’s Zack Greinke second with 175.8.

Finally, it quotes another Cy Young hopeful, the Yankees’ C.C. Sabathia, as saying: “I told Andy (Pettitte) the other day, if I had a vote, I would vote for Hernandez. I saw Felix up close the other day and I was like, ‘All right, this guy is unbelievable.’ So right now, to me, he has my vote.”
