Matt Tuiasopo lived every young ballplayer’s dream this afternoon. He looked at the Seattle Mariners’ lineup card and saw his name on it for the first time as a big leaguer.
Tuiasosopo, called up earlier in the week after a solid season at Class AAA Tacoma, will start at third base tonight. Regular third baseman Adrian Beltre will DH.
“This is pretty much everything I’ve dreamed of, right here,” he said.
Before Tuiasosopo became a highly sought athlete out of Woodinville High School, he was a Mariners fan. And, if you want to feel old, just let Tuiasosop describe his memory of the Mariners’ playoff victory over the Yankees in 1995.
“My dad and my brother and I were at that last game in 95 when Junior scored,” he said.
How old was he then?
“Nine.”
