Jackson debuts in 4A tennis with Wesco win over M. Terrace

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – The Jackson Timberwolves, a perennial boys tennis power in the former Western Conference 3A, will soon find out if that reputation will survive the migration to 4A play as part of the newly expanded Western Conference.

Jackson opened its league season Wednesday with a 7-0 win over Mountlake Terrace. On Friday, the Timberwolves will face a more difficult test when they host Shorewood, a 7-0 winner over Lynnwood on Wednesday.

“Mountlake Terrace has a young team and a small program”, Jackson head coach David Hutt said. “I figure that it will be Jackson, Kamiak, Meadowdale, and Shorewood at the top of the league”

Jackson returns a number of players from last season’s squad. Familiar names such as the Pope twins, Kris and Kory, were among the winners in Wednesday’s match. But it was the play of freshman Alex Yee that pleased Hutt.

“Alex played as our No. 2 singles player,” Hutt said. “He could easily be the No. 1 and he might be on Friday”

To move to that slot, Yee would have to displace veteran David Chong, a sign of how strong and deep the Timberwolves might be.
