The recent attack on Mayor Cindy Ryu smacks of the same kind of racism as that displayed toward former Shoreline Councilman John Chang against whom nasty and eventually unfounded accusations were made but which resulted in his losing a bid for re-election to the council.
Petty comments such as Mayor Ryu’s asserting herself as mayor once when another interrupted her during her four-year term as mayor illustrate how difficult it is to find anything unacceptable during her four-year stint as Shoreline’s mayor. Order and decorum are required to keep the council on track during meetings that are often lengthy due to necessary discussion on complex issues.
We are fortunate to have this woman on the city council. She has the relevant educational and occupational experience, with an MBA and as a Shoreline business owner. Her rival suffers from comparison. Check out Cindy Ryu’s credentials and responses to the Municipal League of King County questionnaire at its Web site: www.munileague.org/candidate-evaluations/previous-ratings/2009/shoreline-city-council.
Her rating reflects not being available for an interview at a time convenient to this organization. Be aware that the Muni League rescinded and removed its rating for Councilman Ron Hansen for questionable professional activities.
Let’s choose candidates for Shoreline City Council who have the requisite educational and occupational experiences that will enable this city to address the increasingly difficult issues that face us and who have demonstrated integrity, intelligence and industriousness.
