Kamiak clinches top South seed to 4A district

LYNNWOOD – For the second straight season the Kamiak Knights are the Wesco South’s No. 1 seed to the 4A District 1 tournament.

The Knights clinched the No. 1 seed by overcoming a slow start and defeating the Meadowdale Mavericks 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 Tuesday night at Meadowdale High School.

Devin Larsen led the Knights (6-1 in division, 10-3 overall) with 30 assists and Jessica Ramos added 10 digs.

Nicole Bozek had nine kills for Kamiak, which has lost just one league game in two seasons.

Katie Cowan led Meadowdale with 26 assists and Mara Eberth had 19 digs.

The Mavericks (1-6, 3-10) meanwhile remained in their own hunt for a playoff berth thanks to an Arlington loss to Marysville-Pilchuck.

Both teams are tied for the final 3A District 1 playoff spot with identical league records (1-6). They both play Thursday with Arlington facing Cascade (2-5, 3-10) and Meadowdale playing Shorewood (0-7, 2-12).

Mountlake Terrace 3, Mariner 1: At Everett, Cassie Hansen led Mountlake Terrace (4-3 in division, 8-5 overall) to the 25-17, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20 Wesco South victory. Brittany Ruscha and Hayden Caitlyn combined for 11 kills and eight blocks for Mariner (1-6, 2-11) on senior night.

Shorecrest 3, Lynnwood 0: At Shoreline, Anna Herold (20 assists, five kills) and Kerry Clavadetscher (14 assists, five kills) helped Shorecrest stay undefeated at 7-0 in division and 13-0 overall with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-13 Wesco South victory. Heather McCartney (21 assists) and Kaitlyn Dill (11 kills, seven blocks, five digs) led Lynnwood (4-4, 5-8).

Jackson 3, Shorewood 0: At Mill Creek, Audra Linsmayer had 29 assists, Brittany Eskridge had 10 kills and Megan Forbes added seven kills to lead Jackson (5-2 division,10-3 overall) to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 Wesco South victory. Katie Dapper paced Shorewood (0-7, 2-12) with nine kills.

Monroe 3, Oak Harbor 0: At Oak Harbor, Monroe came out on top in the Wesco North match, defeating Oak Harbor 25-20, 25-23, 25-9. Kylin Munoz had 14 kills, Tarah Petrick had 25 assists and Kelsey Brennan had eight kills and four blocks for the Bearcats (7-0 in division, 12-1 overall). The Wildcats (3-4, 7-5) were led by Clair Thiel with 10 kills and three blocks and Rebecca Wheeler, who added 17 assists.

Everett 3, Stanwood 1: At Everett, Everett (5-2 in division, 7-6 overall) defeated Stanwood 25-20, 25-10, 12-25, 25-19 in the Wesco North match. The Seagulls were led by Maureen Frauenholtz, who had 12 kills and 18 digs; Erika Hornyak with 10 kills, 10 aces and 16 digs, and Lauren Hope, who added 34 digs. Megan Amundson (17 kills and 18 digs), Whitney Appleby (27 assists), and Dawna Sudweeks (seven kills) led the Spartans (5-3, 9-4).

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Arlington 0: At Arlington, Nancy Couls had 13 kills and Laura Degerness added seven kills as Marysville-Pilchuck defeated Arlington 27-25, 25-10, 25-18. Ashley Keyler added 17 assists for the Tomahawks (6-1 in division, 9-4 overall). Keesha Carpenter (20 assists, five aces), Kelsie Luchini (10 kills) and Brooklyn Holton (seven kills, 11 digs) led Arlington (1-6, 1-12).

Snohomish 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Snohomish, Stephanie Gausman had 17 kills and Alyssa Martin had 21 assists to lead Snohomish (2-5 in division, 7-6 overall) to the 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 Wesco North victory. Kaitlyn Jones had 25 assists and Janae Harpham had eight kills to pace Lake Stevens (1-6, 1-11).

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Cascade 0: At Everett, Erin Lauber had 12 kills, Sharon Kelley had 12 assists and Alex Storino added eight digs to lead Edmonds-Woodway (8-5 overall) to the non-conference win (25-21, 25-18, 25-17). Senior Courtney Smith had five kills for the Bruins (3-10).

Granite Falls 3, Sultan 0: At Sultan, Taylor Sannon had 19 assists and finished 19-for-19 on serves, leading Granite Falls to the 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 Cascade Conference win over Sultan. Michaela Dudder added 11 kills, Chantille Hallenbeck had 16 digs and Jade Rondorf had 15 digs to lead the Tigers (6-7 in league, 6-7 overall). Sultan (0-13, 0-14) was led by Emma Donaldson (14 assists, nine digs), Krystal Paszkeicz (five kills, seven digs) and Olivia Chanthamalay (10 digs).

King’s 3, Cedarcrest 2: At Duvall, Bianca Rowland had 17 kills and 13 digs to keep King’s (13-0 league and overall) perfect in the Cascade Conference with a 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 9-25, 15-12 win over Cedarcrest. The Red Wolves (9-4 in league and overall) were led by Shannon Bailey (eight kills, six blocks), Betsy Anderson (three aces, five kills, three blocks) and Amber Shields (28 assists).

Coupeville 3, Lakewood 0: At Coupeville, Corinne Gaddis and Kyrsten Huddleston combined for nine kills and Chelsea Rosenkrance had 16 digs to lead Coupeville (3-4 in league, 5-4 overall) to the 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 Cascade Conference victory over Lakewood (3-10, 4-10). For Lakewood, Aly Stewart had seven kills.

Archbishop Murphy 3, South Whidbey 0: At Everett, Rachel Shober (10 kills, three aces), Patti Reeves (22 assists, 12 aces) and Megan Robinson (six kills, three aces) led Archbishop Murphy (11-2 league, 11-3 overall) to a 25-19, 25-9, 25-17 Cascade Conference victory over South Whidbey (6-7, 6-7).

Darrington 3, Friday Harbor 0: At Darrington, senior Jill Frable had 11 kills and was 14-for-14 serving and fellow seniors Kylie Thompson and Kristy Turner combined for 10 kills to lead Darrington (7-4 in league, 9-4 overall) to the 25-17, 25-12, 25-22 Northwest 1A/2B League victory. Darrington captured a 2B Tri-District playoff berth, its 12th in 13 years, and plays November 3rd and 4th at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Lummi 3, Cedar Park Christian-Everett 0: At Everett, Lummi (8-3 league, 8-5 overall) won the Northwest 1B League match 25-21, 25-21, 25-14. Cedar Park fell to 2-9, 2-11.

Lopez Island 3, Master’s Touch 0: At Lopez Island, the Lobos (12-0 league, 13-0 overall) completed their unbeaten run through the Northwest 1B League. Master’s Touch fell to 5-6, 5-8.
