Kamiak wins fourth straight title

SHORELINE – The Kamiak Knights placed first in seven events and swam state qualifying times in three events to capture their fourth dual meet championship in a row, with an impressive 104-82 win over Shorewood in a Western Conference South Division showdown Thursday.

Kamiak (8-0 league, 10-0 overall) was led by Rikka Brunner, who swam state qualifying times in both the 200-yard individual medley (two minutes, 12.53 seconds) and the 50 freestyle (25.53).

“We swam well today, but have a showdown with Bainbridge next week,” Kamiak coach Chris Erickson said.

Leanne Dull had state qualifying times in the 200 freestyle (1:58.67) and 100 freestyle (55.48) and was part of the two winning Shorewood (7-1, 9-1) relay teams.

“We competed well today, but overall Kamiak is a deeper team,” Shorewood coach Susie McDowell said.

Shorecrest 93, Meaowdale 78: Aydan Sarikaya won the 200-yard freestyle, Jessica Hale won the 100 breaststroke and both swam on two winning relays to lead Shorecrest to the Wesco South win. Lisa Keane won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay team for Meadowdale.

Mountlake Terrace 111, Lynnwood 58: Danelle Yost won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races and swam on two winning relay teams to lead Mountlake Terrace to the Wesco South win. Brittney Wynn won the 200 individual medley and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team for Lynnwood.

Lake Stevens 128, Mount Vernon 51: The Lake Stevens 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lacey Sunderland, Hanan Hozail, Brittany Wolcott and Kelly Conrad set a school record with a state qualifying time of one minute, 44.34 seconds in the Wesco North meet. The same foursome also swam a state qualifying time in winning the 400 freestyle relay, and Conrad swam a state qualifying time in the 100 freestyle.
