Kamiak’s Goodwin takes one-shot lead in 4A district meet

OAK HARBOR – Kamiak’s Dylan Goodwin fired a 1-under-par 71 Wednesday to take a one-shot lead over Monroe’s Matt Epstein after the first round of the 4A District 1 boys golf tournament at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island’s Gallery Golf Course.

The top 40 players and ties advanced to Friday’s second round. The top 15 finishers on Friday qualify for the state meet May 22-23 at Bellingham’s Shuksan Golf Club.

Sixteen players shot 78 or better Wednesday. Players shooting 85 or better made the cut.

4A District 1 meet: At Oak Harbor, Kamiak players held the top five positions after the first round. Seo Hee Moon shot a 3-over-par 75 to lead teammate Rachel Choi by one stroke going into Friday’s second round. The top 15 finishers after Friday’s play advance to the state meet May 22-23 at Avalon Golf Links in Burlington. Sixteen players were at 94 or better Wednesday.
