Knights knock around Bruins

MUKILTEO – The game between the Cascade and Kamiak boys baseball teams looked like it was going to be a thriller.

Cascade opened up the non-conference game with a three-run home run by David Benson in the top of the first inning to put the Bruins up early.

The lead ended in the bottom half of the same inning when Kamiak scored four runs to jump out to a one-run lead.

Kamiak scored two more runs in the following inning and added four runs in the third to bolster its lead and cruise to an 11-4 victory.

“They put us out early,” Cascade head coach Scott Stencil said.

Stencil said Kamiak did a good job on offense.

“They hit the ball well,” Stencil said of the Knights, who finished with nine hits.

Stencil also praised Alex Soloski (1-0), the Knights’ starting pitcher.

“It looked like it would be sort of a shootout,” Stencil said. “(Their) pitcher settled down after the first inning.”

Kamiak’s Chris Guinn had a double and finished with four RBI. Robbie Perrigo and Mike Malland each went 2-for-3 for Kamiak, which improves to 1-1.

The Bruins fell to 0-2, but Stencil isn’t worried.

“It’s a little bit disappointing,” he said, saying the weather has limited Cascade’s practice time. “But I still think we can go far (in the Wesco North).”
