Lake Stevens shuts out Shorewood

SHORELINE – Sophomore Anna Kruse came through in the 11th minute for Lake Stevens, scoring the game-winning goal in the Vikings’ 1-0 Northwest District victory over Shorewood on Monday. Kendra Anyan assisted Kruse’s goal in the loser-out game at Shoreline Stadium.

“It was a pretty physical game,” said Lake Stevens coach Diane Mattingly, whose team improved to 9-5-3. “Our defense came up huge for us tonight.”

Goalkeeper Cassy Osborn shut down the Thunderbirds to get her seventh shutout of the season. Lake Stevens, the fourth seed from the Western Conference North Division, will face North No. 2 Snohomish at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at Snohomish High School. Lake Stevens is 0-1-1 against Snohomish this year.

“We are looking forward to see (Snohomish) again,” Mattingly said.

At Shoreline

Goals-Lake Stevens: Kruse. Goalkeepers-Lake Stevens: Osborn. Shorewood: not reported. Records-Shorewood 9-6-2 overall. Lake Stevens 9-5-3.

Mountlake Terrace 1, Cascade 0: Kerstin Torrescano scored in the third minute of the loser-out Northwest District 4A tournament game. Stephanie Callfas assisted Torrescano’s goal.

“We’re riding a good wave right now,” Terrace coach Jerry Myers said.

Mountlake Terrace will play Meadowdale tomorrow night at Edmonds Stadium at 7 p.m.

At Everett

Goals-MLT: Torrescano. Goalkeepers-MLT: Hanson. Cascade: Gegax. Records-Mountlake Terrace 9-7-1 overall. Cascade 9-3-5.

Cedarcrest 1, Shorecrest 0: Cedarcrest continued its win streak in a nail-biter in the Northwest District 3A girls soccer tournament game. It came down to a shootout to decide the match, and Cedarcrest’s Ali Williams scored the decisive penalty shot to give the Wolves the victory.

“It took a while to decide this one but we are happy with the result,” Cedarcrest coach Robert Johnson said. Cedarcrest will play Bellingham at Civic Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Shorecrest will play Sehome in a loser-out game at 5:30 on Wednesday, also at Civic Stadium.

At Bellingham

Goals-Cedarcrest: Williams. Goalkeepers-Cedarcrest: Holerud. Shorecrest: Bauer. Records-Shorecrest 13-2-2 overall. Cedarcrest 18-0.
