Lakewood extends season

MARYSVILLE – The Lakewood boys soccer team needed one more win to keep its season alive.

The Cougars got it, and they did it in impressive fashion.

Evander Ochoa hit the back of the net twice in the 2A District 1 play-in game to lead Lakewood past Blaine 5-1 Thursday.

Andrew Escalante, Jeremy Webb and Lucas Antonascio rounded out the Cougars’ scoring as they moved into the district tournament, where the format switches to double-elimination.

Lakewood takes on Sehome in the first round of the district tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whatcom Community College.

Kamiak at Mariner, ppd.: No officials showed up for the key Wesco South contest. The two teams will try to make up the game today. While idle Mariner clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth due to Jackson’s loss to Edmonds-Woodway.

Shorewood 1, Meadowdale 1: At Shoreline, Jack Gold of Meadowdale matched a goal by Shorewood’s Ansel Koehler in the Wesco South game. Shorewood secured a 4A District 1 playoff berth with the tie. It awaits the outcome of the Kamiak vs. Mariner makeup game to find out if it will be the third or fourth seed.
