Everett’s struggling offense is set to receive a big boost this weekend as Landon Ferraro appears ready to return. Ferraro, who’s been out since Jan. 16 because of a hernia, has been skating at full speed in practices this week and should be ready to go Friday at Tri-City.
If Ferraro is able to go Friday, as expected, it will be five weeks to the day after undergoing surgery to repair the hernia. The recovery period from that surgery is typically four-to-eight weeks, so Ferraro is near the front end of that timetable. That’s a fortunate break for the Tips, who need Ferraro’s firepower for the final stretch. It’s certain Ferraro will need some time to reach game sharpness, but his quick recovery means he’ll have plenty of time to do that prior to the playoffs — provided the Tips maintain their playoff position.
Ferraro isn’t the only player the Tips will be welcoming back. Josh Birkholz has also fully recovered from his head injury and will be available Friday. Everett is pretty thin when it comes to scorers, so getting Ferraro and Birkholz back in the lineup is a big deal for the Tips.
With those two returning, winger Zach McPhee has been returned to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL.
